Measures Heatstress

Storage for water

Created at: 02 Mar 2021

Description

In a changing climate, more intense rainstorms and higher temperatures are projected to occur in the Netherlands. This will affect our sewerage system and increase heat stress. However, in densely urbanized areas options for infiltration or greening are limited. The RainRoad aims to solve this problem by ensuring sufficient storage space for storm water and then utilizing that water to provide soil moisture for cooling. Capillary action transports water to the shallow subsoil where evaporation takes place. This is a modular solution for densely populated areas, easily placeable and the system can take high traffic loads.
