Flood protection of ventilation shafts dwellings

Climate Adaptive Green

Climate Adaptation - Solution Rainwater Nuissance

Created at: 07 Nov 2023

Description

On 28 july 2014 Amsterdam suffered from major pluvial floodings when a massive downpour took place in Amsterdam. The quarter Rivierenbuurt was flooded as well. The dwellings were vulnerable for flooding because of the ventilation shafts that border tot the public space. The dwellings have no front garden.

A small protection wall of 10 cm height was made around the ventilation shafts. Some of these construction were integrated in the new green space that was created for heatstress measures as well.

The measures taken are carried out around 2021.
