Osiem Minut Oliwa Poland

Climate Adaptive Green

Nature-based Solutions (large scale)

Created at: 18 May 2023

Description

This project aims to reduce the vulnerability of Oliwa multi-functional area to environmental stresses such as heat stress, drought, flash rain. Bringing coherence to the public transport network, we aim to develop a horizontal pedestrian green corridor to connect public transport and the surrounding areas. In this space, the project uses water to mitigate heat stress, bring social cohesion. Ponds supplied by grey water from the Olivia center (going through a internal sewage system) or rain gardens mitigating water runoff during flash-rain, the space aims to be resilient. In the University sport center, the project proposes an open area for surrounding users to reclaim the green space, following the ideology of "The green village", UK. Increasing the soft mobility accessibility would, in the long-term push to reduce the use of private transport and therefore, turn the current car-centric space into a resilient soft mobility friendly one.
