Description
Close to the Tagbilaran port, various houses on stilts were constructed, a type of construction that protects inhabitants from flooding. This includes Sari-Sari shops (as seen on the right on the first photo).
Different types of stilts were used, as seen in the photos. Stilts made from (reinforced) concrete (also under construction), branches (probably mangrove branches), other wood and combinations can be seen.
As sea levels rise due to climate change, coastal and island communities are increasingly adopting stilt construction to adapt to these changes.
