Auckland Waterfront Vertical Garden

Community Garden

Created at: 31 Aug 2022

Description

This is the World's largest soil vertical garden at the Auckland Waterfront Carpark. This project was originally built in 2019 but the vertical garden was added in 2020. Pre grown felt pockets of soil are used which all hang on a vertical grid structure. The garden has over 75% native NZ plants and uses about 40 species. Overall, the garden has about 3800 plants. The section I have drawn shows the steel framing where the plant pockets hang from. These pockets are pre grown off site, filled with soil and are watered regularly using a sensor controlled drip irrigation which is installed by Thinkwater. This is to minimize water usage and to ensure plant health.
