Natural Shores & Wetlands - Lesum River Bremen Nord

Constructed Wetland

Biodiversity

Created at: 22 Mar 2023

Description

Great natural shores and wetlands at the Lesum river in Bremen Nord (north). Natural shores provide a habitat for many species of animals and plants. New fisch spawning zones were added to the area, as many of these zones in German rivers have been lost. The wetlands also provide space for the Lesum river to overflow as a natural rainwater buffer. The wetlands and biodiversity adds value as a pleasant recreation area for citizens via bike paths along the river and wetlands. Additionally, the wetlands are surrounded by dikes to prevent floods.

During the visit, the water level of the Lesum river was quite low due to droughts.
